I Forgot the WHY

I forgot the why of writing this blog. I thought it was about perfection, and having gained 12 pounds in France last year, then only managing to lose six before we went again this year, I felt I didn’t have anything to share. (And BTW, I gained eight this year.) Then a friend chided me for not writing and reminded me, we’re in this together. I don’t have to be perfect to share with you. Insert embarrassed emoticon here, because I realized she was right and how foolish I had been for feeling this way. So here goes. Aging and travel mean a few things and the one I’m going to talk about today is gaining weight. It’s difficult to maintain my weight when I travel. I drink more, I eat more and things aren’t prepared as I make them at home, adding extra calories for sure. And as so many have said to me, “You’re in France! Of course you have to enjoy the food!” Well, yes and no. Yes, I need to enjoy, but no, I don’t need to eat so much. The French love their veggies, so the first few weeks, when I was at our apartment, it was easy. I went to the market that was actually the first floor of my building, and had great choices. I managed to eat well and I didn’t feel as if I gained anything. Then the travel began and we were with my husband’s clients and I found myself eating, and eating, and eating.
